April (Houston) Collins was raised in Athens, Alabama. Shortly after graduating from high school in 2001, she and her 4-month old son moved to Birmingham, Alabama, so she could attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). After graduating from UAB, she enrolled into law school at Faulkner University. As a law student, she was awarded the Justice Janie L. Shores Scholarship, named in honor of the first female Alabama Supreme Court Justice. After graduating from law school in 2010, April was offered a career position as a Federal Investigator with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. At the end of 2014, she took the plunge and left HUD to start her own law firm, Collins Law, LLC, focusing primarily on civil rights and personal injury law. Aside from her successful career in law, April is the recent author of her debut book Only the Strong Thrive, which she describes as a faith-filled, inspirational and motivational memoir. April is married and has four children. She enjoys traveling, experiencing different cultures and trying new foods. She spends a lot of time with her family, going to the beach in the summer and once participated in the TV Game Show Family Feud. In addition, April has always enjoyed helping others and has devoted time in the past to teaching Sunday school and participating in various community service organizations. She is a member of Hoover Church of Christ in Hoover, Alabama.
