Produktbeschreibung
The identification and assessment of an abnormal digit sucking habit and its immediate and long-term effects on the craniofacial complex and dentition, should be made as early as possible to minimize the potential deleterious effects on the dentofacial complex. Diverting the child's attention each time the habit is observed can solve this problem. If the infant is the outward manifestation of deeper emotional problems, consultation with psychiatrist is advised. Restraints, protective padding, sedation can be used in mentally retarded children. Development of mature and complex oro-facial functions progresses slowly, yet meticulously through various age-related phases from the infancy to adulthood. The parent is informed about the speech difficulties and inconveniences in the initial days of appliance placement. They are encouraged to help and support the child emotionally during the phases of the treatment. Regular recall visits until the child discontinues the habit are essential. The positive treatment from the dentist about the child's progress in the treatment will be great motivation for the child to continue and cope with the treatment.
