A widowed, heavily pregnant mother. A recently released outlaw. A blizzard, a train derailment, and a chance at happiness neither anticipated when their lives collide on Christmas Eve 1899. As snow swirls around him, James Dodson climbs the train's metal steps, weary and hungry but finally free. He's heading to his sisters after six long years of serving for his crimes with one goal and that is to start over and build a future he should have started long ago. Rose McGaven scrambles to board the train on route to Helena, Montana with her young son, praying she can disappear from the clutches of her vicious brother-in-law who only has one thing on his mind and it isn't protecting his late brother's wife. As the only passengers on a train that has just derailed, James comes to her rescue when Rose needs it most. As they navigate a path neither expected, difficulties from their pasts endanger their future, but James makes a promise he's not willing to neglect. Will Rose let James keep his promise or will she let fear rule her heart and let their chance at happiness disappear like a flame snuffed out from a harsh winter's breeze?
