Titanium rich NiTi smart material has an excellent combination of properties such as shape memory effect and pseudoelasticity which makes it a perfect candidate for various biomedical applications such as stents for cardiovascular application, dental braces, implants, pressure valves etc. These functional implant alloys have the potential to be activated at body temperature and can withstand kinking. All thoseapplications which require such phenomenal properties are the goal of active research interest. The following work encompasses the entire mechanism of shape memory effect and pseudo-elasticity, as well as the multitude of biomedical applications of the NiTi alloy. In this study, the Ti-rich NiTi specimens are fabricated via Powder metallurgy route and characterizations are carried out to understand the properties of the alloy. A detailed discussion has been done on the surface morphology, the evolution of microstructure, comprehension of the phases present, hardness values, the reversible transformation of phases and the corrosion behaviour of the Ti-rich NiTi samples.
