The TIOGA, launched in 1936, finished first in 24 of her initial 37 races. Renamed TICONDEROGA in 1946, she went on to set more records than any ocean racer in history. However, the ship wasn't designed for racing, but rather genteel "afternoon sailing", with an uncommon elegance of form, clipper bow, raked rig, gilded garnish, and a bathtub. Such opulence and beauty, combined with speed, has made her incomparable. 130 full-color & b&w photos. Size D. 256 pp.
