The India is the major country in the world growing horse gram. It is grown largely in Southern Indian area having the acute rainfall not more than 750 mm. the crop is drought tolerant, hardy and generally grown as sole crop in less fertile soils. In India horse gram has cultivated in different states viz., Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu. It show good adaptability. In Konkan region of Maharashtra, horse gram is mainly grown in Rabi season in rice field after harvest of Kharif rice both on residual moisture as well as under irrigation. Horse gram is one of under-exploited grain legumes with great potential in sustainable agriculture.
