The report will look into both the history of SOLAS and its effect on the current maritime climate, with some discussion into the future of SOLAS at its current position. New concepts, such as SRTP and human management, will be discussed and how these new concepts fit with SOLAS to prevent future disasters and loss of Life.

From a young age I have been mesmerised with the vastness of the great oceans, and the vessels that have travelled the seas throughout time. After my Merchant Navy training at Warsash Maritime Academy, I went on to complete my Batchelor of Engineering. This report was born from my fascination of the Titanic, and the disaster that shook the world.
