On October 30, 2001, in Game 3 of the 2001 World Series, he caught the first pitch thrown by President George W. Bush, only the second time a sitting President throws the first pitch in the World Series. In 2008, he was a scout for the San Diego Padres. In January 2009, he was named a quality assurance coach for the Tampa Bay Rays.
