In this work experimental study was conducted to achieve better understanding the torsional behavior of R flanged (L) beams wrapped with CFRP as well as reduced area of main steel torsional zone by 1/3. In this experimental study the role of flange part in resisting torsion is studied by increasing the flange width of controlled beams. The effect of CFRP wrapping is also studied by changing the CFRP wrapping configuration of beams. The aim of present study is to determine the quantitative effectiveness of CFRP to be used as an external reinforcement and reducing the area of main steel and increasingly flange width the results obtain from CFRP strengthened L beams compared with control beams. The experimental study shows noticeable improvement in torsional capacity of all the CFRP wrapped beams with reduced Ast. The torsional strength increases with increase in flanged width irrespective of beam strengthening with CFRP, as increase in area enclosed inside the critical shear path.
