Dudley Allen tells his life story in raw, honest language, Texas style. In this memoir, he tells the stories of his numerous brushes with death, and miraculous escapes. Tough Music is a Texas country music survival story, told by the man who has lived it. He tells about a childhood of being forced by his father to perform for audiences at an early age. That led to an encounter with Lee Harvey Oswald at a street party where the family band was performing. He recounts the events of a day so harrowing that the story led to an appearance on the Maury Povich Show. Nashville, he tells us, is a tough music city. He describes multiple sojourns to Nashville trying to sell songs. It could be tough to watch a music star eating at Shoney's when you can't afford even a piece of toast. Through his adult life, Dudley has struggled to live a normal life as a musician, EMT, police officer and family man, all the while under the shadow of PTSD. Dudley's recollections so impressed his VA Hospital psychiatrist that the kindly doctor said to him "Your life should be made into a movie." 167 pages in length.
