Monograph presents Tourism and Recreation Cluster development and planning issues for the case of South Georgian region, Samtskhe-Javakheti, from ecological point of view. The main objective of the work is to define urban and spatial planning tools and solutions which will contribute to the sustainable development of tourism and recreation cluster of Samtskhe-Javakheti region. This southern border region of Georgia is distinguished with a numerous resort settlements, protected areas, mineral water sources and famous cultural heritage monuments. Three main resort settlements - Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe and Abastumani are defined as planning triangle and most important resorts of the tourism and recreation cluster. In the work are indicated peculiar features of these resorts, the role of the green areas, road and transportation network and development prospects for underused territories for case of Gujareti valley. Importance of environmental protection and ecological balance for existing and prospective resorts is highlighted. As one of the best international practices is considered example of urban planning - pro-ecological activities for the resort city of Sopot (Poland).

La dottoressa Tamar Khoshtaria è architetto-pianificatore urbano. Campi di interesse: studi spaziali, paesaggistici, di progettazione architettonica e teorici. La sua ricerca è stata premiata con diverse borse di studio. Ha esperienza in progetti internazionali, consulenza nella pianificazione urbana/spaziale, sviluppo del turismo regionale e delle attività ricreative, questioni ambientali.
