Trace and ultra-trace elements have several essential roles in living organisms. Disturbances in trace and ultra-trace elements homeostasis may result in the development of pathologic states and diseases. This book aims to review the main effects of trace and ultra trace-elements in human health, namely iron, zinc, copper, manganese and fluorine, selenium, chromium, molybdenum, cobalt, boron and iodine, focusing on the physiopathology and consequences of lack or excess of these elements. Also, it offers an overview of research information published in recent years, concerning the use of these metals in compouds that exhibit promising pharmacological activities.
