It's the first camping trip for Olivia and her little brother, Matteo. At first, she is kept busy venturing out into the forest until she discovers the footprints of children playing nearby. But these aren't the only tracks left behind and the clues are starting to reveal something creepy. It seems that the ghost story daddy told at the campfire is coming true! Something in the woods is stealing children's toys at night. Olivia, Matteo, and her new band of friends are determined to crack the case and follow the trail of toys, even if it means confronting the monster in the cave.

Autorenporträt
Robert C. Duffy wrote this book, verse by verse, from the seaside of Santa Monica, CA to a mountain cabin in the Tahoe National Forest. The author is an experienced backpacker throughout the Sierra Nevada Mountains and an avid camper. Born in May, 1970, much of the illustrations come from personal memories of camping with his family as a child. Now he enjoys this tradition with his own kids. Olivia, the main character, is his daughter; Matteo, his son. In fact all of the characters are based upon real friends and family. Although Trail of Toys was authored by Robert C. Duffy, if it weren't for the suggestion to write it by Jennifer Rizzo, this book would never have been conceived. A special thanks is given to all of those who offered such wonderful support along the way. "In conceiving the illustrations, I wanted to capture the balance between light and dark, valor and fear; to temp the curiosity of what hides in the shadows; to scare and enchant in a single moment." Robert C. Duffy currently lives in Santa Monica, CA where two of his children attend grade school.
