Autorenporträt
Sven Hedin (1865-1952) fue el último de los grandes exploradores, el último de los individualistas, quien durante la mayor parte de su carrera confió en sus propios poderes de observación y resistencia. Nacido en en Estocolmo, estudió bajo la tutela del reputado geógrafo alemán Ferdinand von Richthofen. Se convirtió en un excelente geógrafo, cartógrafo y artista; y alcanzó fama y fortuna tras sus exploraciones en Asia. No solo hizo que la exploración fuera emocionante a través de sus muchos libros y conferencias públicas, sino que los resultados científicos recopilados por Hedin y otros bajo su liderazgo se han convertido en su legado perdurable.
