Mary Thomas has recently retired from teaching mathematics after 43 years in the classroom of middle and high schools. She was very involved with students outside the classroom as well through coaching and club advisory roles. Mary has been the recipient of numerous awards for her high achievements as a teacher, coach, club advisor, as well as an active leader in community service projects. Among the many top awards she has received she states that she is most proud of the county "Woman of the Year Award" because it is given due to the accumulation of the many previous awards. Mary is a published author of the popular motivational book, Kids These Days which details the true events of many of her incredible students who overcame tremendous odds to achieve their goals. In addition to teaching and writing, she is a highly sought after motivational speaker to audiences of teachers as well as teens. Mary and her husband Joe reside in Aiken, SC, and their daughter Christina is an RN at MUSC in Charleston, SC.
