Transforming Transportation: The Electric Car Revolution describes a proposal for a new nationwide all-electric mass transit system called NTS (National Transit Service). NTS uses private electric cars and trucks to provide door-to-door service across town or across the country. NTS will provide a low-cost travel service for freight, business, and personal travel. NTS is designed to provide the same convenient, anytime, travel advantage that owning a car has. It could eventually replace the interstate highway system. NTS is to be funded by a combination of public and private sources with small investors providing 85% and the government 5%, with the rest coming from a franchising organization. NTS will be built starting with very high traffic corridors on both the east and west coasts, with separate segments linking metro areas. Revenue from high traffic segments will help build an eventual nationwide network larger than the interstate highway system. The new transportation technology will create:A door-to-door mass transit service A low-cost and convenient travel service Extremely safe and fast travel Weather-proof travel Solar energy to power electric vehicles as they travel A nationwide automated roadway solely for electric vehicles The technology is state of the art and only requires the will to build it. The book will describe:The infrastructure The electric vehicles The funding The passenger usage Trip examples and comparisons to current travel options The impact on society The National Transit Service will change society in many positive ways, creating a world where: Traffic fatalities are few Owning a car is rare Airports are freed from the congestion caused by short-haul flights Weather delays for passengers and freight are non-existent Traffic delays and congestion will be a thing of the past All people have the same travel options for work, school, shopping, and leisure Millions of NTS investors have a new source of retirement income New travel opportunities currently not possible will be possible Group or family travel is very low cost CO2 and other transportation emissions are cut to zero Commercial Package delivery is low cost, convenient, and secure Homes no longer need space for a car Billions of dollars in new tax revenues Billions of dollars for K-12 education
