Blood transfusion is a cellular therapy aimed at correcting a deficiency in one of the blood components. However, it is often marred by minor or serious transfusion accidents that can be life-threatening for the recipient if transfusion safety measures are not taken. We conducted a prospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study by successive recruitment from February 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021. The main objective was to determine the incidence of transfusion accidents at the Sominé DOLO Hospital in Mopti. A total of 8062 bags of whole blood were transfused. We found 41 transfusion reactions out of 8062 blood products transfused, i.e. an incidence of 5/1000. Among the 41 transfusion reactions, 22.0% were related to a typing error. Hemolytic reactions were the most frequent with a rate of 46.3% and nearly 30% could not be biologically characterized because of the delay in reporting or the absence of samples or the availability of certain complementary tests.
