Arab American literature and in specific poetry has a century-long tradition of literary production, as it extends its roots to the early Mahjar poets. Through her poetry collection, Emails from Scheherazad (2003), contemporary Arab American Muslim writer and feminist scholar Mohja Kahf tackles the question of identity. Kahf's poetry examines the 'pain and possibility' of a composite identity that is being affected by stereotyping, ethnicity and hybridity.
