In the study of heat transfer, the surface that extends from a body is called as a fin. Fins are used to increase heat transfer rate object to the surrounding by maximizing the convection rate. The modes of heat transfer (convection, conduction, radiation) of a body determine the flux of heat. When the temperature difference between of the body and surrounding increasing, or rise the heat transfer coefficient of convection, or maximizing the area. But, Increase of the area also causes increased resistance to the heat flow. Hence, heat transfer is depending on the whole area (the base and fin surface area) which comes out to be less than that of the base. There are different types of shape and size fins used in engineering applications to maximizing the rate of heat transfer. In this study, fin geometry could be optimized in better way by simulation of different fins. The transient thermal analysis of engine fins is conducted using ANSYS workbench software.
