This book is a translation of the legal articles pertaining to the books of sale, hire and loan from Majallat al-A k m al-Shar iyya, which is considered the first codified corpus of the Islamic anbal school of law, followed by a study examining and analysing issues related to the source and target texts. The importance of the book stems from the fact that it includes in its first part an English translation of all anbal rulings related to the law of transactions. It then studies in its second part crucial issues contained in the Arabic source text, such as the transformation of the language of juristic Islamic texts into legal codes. The last section of the second part of the book is devoted to the exploration and analysis of different linguistic and cultural issues and problems associated with the translation of Arabic legal codes into legal English. Lawyers, linguists, translation scholars, legal translators and others may find this book particularly useful as it addresses issues relevant to their work and interest.
