Transplanted by Necessity is a story of my life. I wanted to leave something for my children that no one else could give them. I felt that a small piece of history of my life may be helpful at some point in their own life, if nothing else they could look back and see what life was like for me as a young girl growing up in the mountains of West Virginia during the late 1930's and 40's. When life gets tough they would know that the generation before them was tough also and the generations before my generation were more difficult. Life is as difficult as you allow it to be, each generation found a way to make it work for them, each generation stood for something and believed that what they were doing was the right thing at that time. I know that family history can be boring, so I chose to include the things that stand out most in my life as I remember them, The funny, the sad and the seemingly unthinkable parts that molded and shaped my life into the person I was destined to be. Perhaps my siblings saw it differently, or remembered it differently and that too is accepted as we can only remember so much from seventy years of life. My life is no more important than any other life or no more exciting or devastating as a normal American citizen's life, it is just the fact that I chose to put my life in print for the amusement the recalled memories brought to me. I only hope that my family, friends and readers find it amusing as well. My years have taken me from the mountains of West Virginia to big city of Chicago, to the Chicago Suburbs and later plopped me in the rural Midwest. We live in Marengo, IL, a little town about seventy miles west of Chicago, surrounded by cornfields and soybean fields. We live five miles from town in the quite and peaceful countryside much like going back to my roots.
