How do we learn about other cultures when we are travelling? This book explore about the theory of culture, cultural identity and tourism. By analysis of tourism brochures from Vorarlberg (Austria) and Northern Eastern Switzerland can be seen how their identity is represented. In both regions there are authoritative selections made by tourist offices or guidebooks, but there less possibilities to come in contact with the local people. Usual guidebooks do not cover opportunities to gain fresh surprise through recommendations by locals, and in order to achieve that, there need an additional effort. This book help to design a product called Traverse which has the aim to give an opportunity to the user that he or she can experience the two cultures in these border regions. Furthermore, the user should take notice of the differences and similarities within the activities that are offered. In order to accomplish, a design was developed for an alternative guidebook called "Traverse".

Sanami Bruderer graduated from Glasgow School of Art, Scotland as BDes Honor in Product Design and graduated from Fachhochschule Vorarlberg, Austria as Master of Arts in Arts and Design. Received a Newway Award 2009 for her master thesis "Travers". Currently working as a graphic designer at Luger Grafik in Bregenz, Austria.
