The great treasure revealer and visionary Terchan Barway Dorje (1836-1918) was one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist teachers of his time. A student of many great masters of his time, he was initially associated with Surmang Monastery. He devoted a good portion of his life to reviving the lost teachings of Barom Kagyu and revealing nine volumes of the treasure teachings. He was an incarnation of both Yeshe Tsogyal and Nupchen Sangye Yeshe. Toward the end of his life, he founded the Raktrul Monastery.
