About this series With this edition, the texts of the famous Trait de Zoologie are now being made available to a worldwide readership. Parts 1, 2, and 3A of volume VII, i.e., the Crustacea, were published in French in 1994, 1996, and 1999, respectively. As the current standard works on Crustacea in English date back from the 1960s through the 1980s, it seems obvious that The Crustacea published in this Treatise on Zoology will take over as a standard reference to the biology and systematics of the group for the next decades. The English edition series is planned to comprise 9 volumes in at least 12 fascicles of approx. 400 pp. each, based on the French parts hitherto published and including newly conceived parts to complement those French volumes. Charmantier-Daures is an associate professor at the university of Montpellier and well known for her work on crustacean ecophysiology and genetics. She also is an editor of Crustaceana International Journal of Crustacean Research. J. Forest, editor of the original French volumes of the Trait de Zoologie, with his impressive published record on various groups of Crustacea, acts as a supervising editor of the series. F.R. Schram, an authority on the systematics and phylogeny a wide range of crustacean taxa, currently has an appointment as a Research Associate at the Burke Museum of Natural History of the university of Washington, Seattle, Washington. J.C. von Vaupel Klein, formerly at the university of Leiden and managing editor of Crustaceana, is principal translator of the French volumes of the Trait and coordinating editor of this series as a whole.
