Unlike several developed and even developing countries who have recognized the value of analysing the trends in the growth of doctorates for disciplines like science and engineering, India is still fraught with the problem of setting up an authentic database of PhDs. Anitha Kurup is a Professor, School of Social Sciences and Anchor of the Education Program at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore, India. She is currently a Senior Fulbright Visiting Scholar at University of California, Davis.Her research interests span the broad disciplines of education and gender.
