The Tribal class, or Afridi class, were a class of destroyers built for the Royal Navy, Royal Canadian Navy and Royal Australian Navy that saw service in World War II. Originally conceived as a failed design for a light fleet cruiser, the Tribals evolved into fast, powerful destroyers, as they are remembered from World War II. They were built to a different concept than other Royal Navy destroyers built up to the time, with more emphasis on guns than torpedoes, and were meant as a response to the new, much larger destroyers being built by potential adversaries.
