Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863-1938) è stato uno dei più importanti poeti e scrittori della letteratura italiana. Anche giornalista, attivista politico e militare, la sua figura è una delle più discusse e controverse nel panorama artistico italiano di fine Ottocento e inizio Novecento. Massimo esponente dell'Estetismo, tra le sue opere più note ricordiamo "Alcyone", la raccolta di liriche che contiene "La pioggia nel pineto".
