Helen Stephens creció en County Durham y en la actualidad vive en Londres con su pareja y su hija pequeña. Tras terminar sus estudios de arte, trabajó como ilustradora antes de comenzar a crear sus propias historias. Ha escrito e ilustrado decenas de libros infantiles que han sido traducidos a numerosas lenguas. Su título más exitoso hasta el momento, Cómo esconder un león, fue candidato a los premios Kate GreenawayMedal, Oldham Book, Stockport Children's Book y el UKLA, y obtuvo el Rotherham Book Award.
