HE SERVED IN 1919 FOR SIX DAYS AS PRESIDENT OF THE SHORT-LIVED BAVARIAN SOVIET REPUBLIC, AND WAS IMPRISONED FOR FIVE YEARS FOR HIS ACTIONS.
