Tutoring plays an essential role in the integral formation of students, especially in the Compulsory Secondary Education stage, in which young people must begin to make decisions regarding their future and require specialized academic and professional attention and guidance. The tutor teacher acquires an unquestionable relevance, since from his/her position of closeness to the students, he/she has to act as a guide, mediator, counselor and link between the different educational agents. For this to take place, it is essential that teachers are well trained and committed to tutorial work, which will undoubtedly be conditioned by the environment in which it is carried out. This text delves into the conceptualization and importance of tutoring, seeks to analyze the current training of tutors and gives an example of the way in which the environment influences the reality of tutorial action. Thus, it details how this is developed in the rural area of northwestern Asturias, including the influence that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the way of understanding and carrying out tutoring.
