Type 1 diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune disease and it represents a common pediatric problem. Children with type 1 diabetes commonly presents with recurrent abdominal pain with no obvious cause. On investigation, some of them were positive for MEFV gene mutation. This link of an autoimmune disease to an autoinflammatory one; Familial Mediterranean Fever; has raised the suspicion of a possible association. Further study for the prevalence of MEFV mutation in diabetic children was done to test for a possible association. This work aimed at highlighting both medical conditions and discussing the possible association between type 1 diabetes mellitus and Familial Mediterranean Fever in children, a new Pediatrics area to be studied.
