S. Route numbers on its roads; U. S. Routes 106 and 219 also ended abruptly at the Pennsylvania-New York border. If the U.S. Route 220 signing had continued north along what in 1925 was designated NY Route 4, and after the adoption of U. S. Route signing in New York NY Route 2, U.S. Route 220 would indeed have intersected U. S. Route 20 in central New York.
