Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Uda Mikumari Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Uda, Nara, Japan. It is dedicated to mikumari, a female Shinto kami associated with water. The honden was built near the end of the Kamakura period, and is listed as a National Treasure of Japan. A Shinto shrine is a structure whose main purpose is to house ("enshrine") one or more Shinto kami, and is usually characterized by the presence of a honden or sanctuary, where the kami are enshrined. The honden may however be completely absent, as for example when the shrine stands on a sacred mountain to which it is dedicated, or when there are nearby himorogi or other yorishiro that can serve as a more direct bond to a kami.
