High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Um Hong-Gil (born September 14, 1960) is a South Korean climber who achieved climbing of Lhotse Shar and the first achiever in the world. He has led many South Korean summer expeditions to Mt Aconcagua in Argentina, where he has successfully summitted South America's highest mountain many times. In 2000, he finally reached K2(8,611m), which means his team finalized whole mission to go up to the peaks within 12 years. He tried to climb Mount Everest in September, 2005 but failed. He would try again 3 years later successfully. His mission has carried on Kangchenjunga and Lhotse Shar to gain the full accomplishment of ascent in May 31st of 2007 to become the first achiever. At 30th Dec. of 2007, he succeeded to climb up Vinson Massif, the highest peak of Antarctica.
