Aldo Leopold (1887-1948), nacido en Burlington, Iowa, es un referente fundamental del activismo medioambiental. Fue ingeniero forestal, silvicultor, profesor de Biología de la Vida Salvaje y padre de la ecología contemporánea, así como un destacado escritor y ensayista, cuya propuesta para una ética de la tierra se ha convertido en uno de los ejes de la filosofía conservacionista.
