Hispanic women and Indigenous girls are being lured into sex-for-hire "stables," under the guise of offering job opportunities in American casinos and large hotels. The hotels use contracted labor to insulate themselves from using undocumented immigrants. The women have nowhere to turn once they realize that they've been tricked into a life of free labor and sex for sale. Lucy Chavez, a young Hispanic-American, attends a party at a waterfront hotel in her Midwestern city and sees several frightened Hispanic girls being man-handled by their "dates." Lucy notices that none of the girls speak English, which is not typical for her locale. She seeks the advice of a friend, whom she knows to be a hard-nosed private investigator, and Lucy decides to help obtain evidence on the suspected trafficking operation by going undercover. What she uncovers is a shocking glimpse into the evil that humans are capable of. Central American and Canadian Indian girls are being imported for cheap slave labor and sold for sex, using false promises of citizenship. This book is a gripping tale of what happens in the underworld of sex and human trafficking and brings to light its ills in our society. At the very least, it will show that being kidnapped by sex traffickers can happen in the Third World, as well as in our very own backyard, right in the middle of the Midwest United States. The characters are endearing, they will leave you wondering how anyone can deal with such trauma. Be prepared to cry with them!
