This report contains information about undergraduate education and graduate programmes in Social Work, as well as a compilation of all theses written since the subject was established as an academic discipline in Sweden in the 1970s. As of 2013, Sweden has 16 universities or colleges that offer undergraduate training and instruction in the field of Social Work. Most also offer third-cycle courses on site. Swedish academic research in Social Work originated within a primarily sociological context, but because there are now several graduate programmes and a large number of senior researchers in the field, the knowledge base of Social Work has been deepened and is a discipline in its own right. This report begins by briefly describing the context in which the PhD theses are written. The background section reveals a process of development in which many changes have occurred and are still occurring. These changes are discussed from a gender perspective. In this report you will find the titles and authors of all theses in Social Work written in Sweden between the years of 1980 and 2012. Information is also provided on where to find abstracts and full-text copies of the theses.
