The study was an opinion survey of Punjab university students (M.A. semester III, Session 2006-2008) regarding their understanding about the Social Work. It covers the aspects including definition of Social Work, its fields, scope and the difference between professional and voluntary Social Work. It also included some recommendations regarding the recognition and promotion of Social Work. According to the objective& scope of the study, quantitative method (survey) was adopted and interviewing schedule was used as tool for data collection. According to major findings, female respondents were more than male and Majority (72%) belonged to urban areas. About (20%) were from the faculty of science and (21%) students were from education faculty and only (12%) each from faculty of behavioral and social sciences, economics and management sciences. Majority (98%) had knowledge about Social Work, and most of them got knowledge from their educational institute (college, school, university).A large majority defined Social Work as helping activity.
