Wanjiru Warama was born and raised in British colonial Kenya to farm-worker parents who scratched a living on a British farmer's farm in the Great Rift Valley. She never ceases to be amazed at how books have changed her life. For her first twelve years of schooling, she never owned a book, saw a library, or a bookstore. And yet she scrambled through her life all the way to graduate school. Her goal is to write books and raise enough money to build a small library in Solai, even if it is a one-room structure. Meanwhile, she has adopted a high school and an elementary school where pupils remain without a library similar to the situation she was in decades ago. She is an author of three books: Unexpected America, Entangled in America, and YEARS of SHAME, FGM Survivor and other True Stories. She is currently writing a book wholly based on a colonial farm. Ms. Warama lives in California. In writing Unexpected America, Ms. Warama draws from her childhood experiences and the book is richer for it. Unexpected America touches hearts, entertains, and readers learn something new they did not know before. Ms. Warama is involved in philanthropy work either in person or through organizations like The Rotary _she was the president of her Rotary Club in 2018_2019_ a Lifetime Member of The Friends of the San Diego Public Library, and San Diego Writers & Editors Guild among others.
