The perception at the heart of this work is simple. Generally, we associate the term 'evolution' with life, but actually, evolution is a principle of organisation that underlies everything that exists, from the smallest sub-atomic particles to the most complex life forms - up to and including, our personal experience of existence. The Western approach to evolution theory focuses largely on investigation of the mechanics of the processes involved, while Eastern traditions have always been more concerned with developments in terms of the expression of 'essential being', or 'spirit' rather than purely physical considerations. This book seeks to draw insight from each of these perspectives to present a view of evolution that reflects them in a way that is consistent and complementary. It's not about 'belief' however, in the shape of either scientific theory or religion, but about exploring evidence - and the way we interpret it, with a reasonably open mind. It concludes with a consideration of the role human behaviour has in shaping the future. This book is really just a long essay about evolution, in which the author discusses some ideas and perceptions around the subject. Some of these are already well known, some are his own, gathered over many years. Generally, people tend to think of evolution as an obscure and highly specialist subject best left to experts to consider and figure out. The author used to feel that way himself, but now has a very different, profoundly interested but relaxed attitude towards it. Evolution is about you and me, it's about the world we inhabit and belong to. It's not just a specialist's subject. It's for anyone and everyone to consider (or not if they prefer) and add to the sense of being part of a greater whole.
