Just a few weeks before the author graduated from high school, she attempted suicide. They had attempted three different times before that but that was the only time they had received any treatment. These poems were the only way they knew how to express that they couldn't do it on their own anymore. The author had made it their entire youth on their own, and they were done. They don't want anyone else going through similar times to feel alone, or feel like they cant ask for help. These poems are their life.
