In Africa, waste management is a real challenge for municipalities not only in terms of technology but also in terms of financing. The municipality of Ouagadougou allocates a significant part of its budget for transporting and burying its waste. Characterization studies of this urban waste have revealed a significant proportion of organic matter (fermentable waste) that can be recovered. With the implementation of its waste management master plan (SDGD), the city of Ouagadougou has equipped itself with several waste recovery units, notably the composting unit. The latter produces compost which it makes available to urban farmers. Despite this composting unit, the fermentable waste of the commune of Ouagadougou remains undervalued. The objective of this study is to develop the potential of fermentable waste from the city of Ouagadougou for urban agriculture.
