This book uses new growth theory as frameworks for investigating the determinants of productivity growth and provides empirical analyses with urban and provincial data to support the theoretical suggestions. By taking into account the theory of city size distribution and stochastic frontier approach on technical efficiency, there are some concrete objects in every parts of the thesis. Then a new analysis approach is introduced into the study. By stochastic frontier analysis, the determinants of TE (technical efficiency) difference across cities are discussed, and the study is focusing on the comparison of effects of foreign capital and domestic capital on TE term. A simultaneity model is constructed for the interaction of FDI, domestic capital and TE term. The FDI is introduced into the technical efficiency term. The simultaneity function is the main form of the model. At last, the effect of export on urban productivity growth is involved.
