The underground hip hop is, in fact, American hip hop in Zimbabwe, rendered predominantly in the English language oftentimes with fake American accents, although there is a rising use of local languages which, however, are expressed with American sensibilities. For the majority of Zimbabwean hip hop artists, whether as practitioners of urban grooves or underground hip hop, politics is something they pretend to shun and only express, knowingly or unknowingly, using ambivalent lyrics and dissonant sound, therebymaking urban grooves a deceptive genre.
