Urban entomology simply refers to the study of insects, including their management in urban environments. Urbanized areas are, by definition, environments dominated by the actions of man. Pests and parasites of many kinds, thrive even though unwanted and actively suppressed because their own requirements are met by the environments people create. Urban pest management can be simply defined as the creation and maintenance of conditions or situations in which pests of importance in urban environments are prevented from causing significant problems. Its objectives may be achieved by preventing the establishment or spread of pests, controlling established infestations, and keeping infestations of levels at which little or no damage or annoyance occurs.
