The recent methodology of United Nation Organisation and World Bank Report had been employed to calculate the Human Development Index of Nagpur slumdwellers. Human Development Index parameters like Income Index, Life expectancy at Birth and Education Indexes have been calculated separately. HDI of Nagpur was compared with the National HDI of India. The HDI of slums were compared with the HDI of sub Saharan countries. The approach of the study is scientific and rational. The most distinguishing feature of this book is Human Development Index was calculated for exclusively for slums. No other study had highlighted this aspect of slums ever before.

Dr.Deepak M. Wankhede is presently working as a Head and Associate Professor at Department of Geography, Government Vidarbha Institute of Science and Humanities, Amravati Maharashtra (India). He is Project Director of the major research project of ICSSR New Delhi. He was a Post Doctoral Fellow and Former Reader in Geography at Uni.of Pune, India.
