Ucn/CRF-R2 system in the upper GI tract ( mainly the stomach plays a completely different role in gastric inflammatory response and motility compared with that of the Ucn/CRF-R1 in the lower GI tract (colon). In the stomach peripheral stimulation of CRFR2 can protect the stomach from stress induced ulceration. Peripheral stimulation of CRFR2 in the stomach inhibits its motility producing gastric stasis.
