The main purpose of this study was to reveal the current status of software used in the libraries of Lahore, and to identify the prominent features of the software packages, i.e., functions, cost effectiveness, training facility, impact on library services, major differences among various software chosen for the study, explore the satisfaction level of the software users and furnish some suggestions regarding their use. The study was conducted in four phases. In the first phase, a comprehensive review of related literature was conducted to understand technical and theoretical aspects of this study. In the second phase, with the help of reviewed literature instruments were developed for data collection. The population of this study was automated libraries of Lahore, which was consisting academic (university, college, and school libraries), public and special libraries. A purposive sample was chosen for checklist, while the whole population of the study filled the opinion section. In phase three, collected data were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed to reach at conclusions. In the final phase, conclusions were drawn along with recommendations.

Farzana Shafique did her MLIS (2004) and MPhil Leading to PhD (2005-2009) course works with distinctions. The number of her published articles is more than 30. She has presented many conference papers and supervised many master's theses at IUB/PU. She is currently a lecturer at DLIS, IUB and chief-editor of Info@PULISAA.
