The study is an exploration of the potential of using indigenous basket and mat weaving in the teaching and learning of mathematics.Three professional weavers were interviewed and observed while weaving baskets and mats. The author has worked as a mathematics lecturer at Great Zimbabwe University. Her research interests are on mathematics education and culture. She has published and presented some conference papers on the area. Currently she is working on a doctorate thesis on indigenisation of the mathematics curriculum at Tshwane University of Technology, in S.A.
