It is one of three schools in North Lincolnshire that has a sixth-form, of which another is in Brigg, which together operate (in conjunction with Vale of Ancholme) as the Brigg Sixth Form College, to spread the workload rather than duplicating curriculum. The Vale in 2008 had results of 47% grades A-C of which was higher than the local education authority's average of 41.6%. However Sir John Nelthorpe only had 39% grades A-C.
